Why "Fair Winds Life"?
I decided to start a blog to share my love of ethical and fair trade fashion. I wanted to show a rural, midwest-friendly style, since most of what I had seen on the topic seemed aimed at those on the coasts, or in large cities. I thought about the term "fair trade," and how historically trade was conducted by sailing ships driven by the wind.
The phrase "fair winds and following seas" is used to wish favorable conditions for a sailing voyage; it can also be used to convey best wishes as someone begins a trip, endeavor, or even a whole new stage of life. I liked the idea of applying the phrase to modern trade that is conducted in an ethical manner.
I quickly realized that ethical fashion was too narrow a focus, and I would also want to share pics of DIY projects, behind-the-scenes glimpses of my artistic creative process, and maybe even occasional little snippets of thoughts on life. As I began to round out the concept of what this space might look like, "Fair Winds Life" came to mind as a way to convey the best wishes of a blessed, but sometimes wind-blown, life.
So welcome! I hope you stay a while and see where the wind takes us.
Also, I'm curious. If you were going to start a blog, what would you call it? What would you write about? I'd love to hear your silly or serious ideas!
